Every rated tornado in the United States since 1950, sorted onto the 366 days of the year. Darker days have seen more touchdowns. The Plains season is a spike in late May; the Southeast's runs from November clear through spring. Tap any day to see its worst year.
How the season runs
Share of each region's EF1+ tornadoes that have already happened by a given date, 1950 to 2025. The Plains climb a cliff in May. The Southeast starts in the previous November and is half done before the Plains have properly begun.

Each tornado is placed on its local calendar date using solar time at the touchdown point, so a late evening touchdown stays on its own day. Feb 29 holds only its leap-year records, so it always reads light. The Plains and Southeast groupings follow the other kiosks. The year strip for a tapped day is national whichever region is selected. Counts rise across the record because reporting improved, not only because weather changed: weak tornadoes were undercounted before Doppler radar and cell phones, so old quiet days are partly quiet on paper. Deaths follow SPC.
