Every tropical cyclone that reached hurricane strength since 1950, drawn from its first fix to its last and shaded by the wind at each point. The Pacific sits in the middle so nothing wraps. The empty band along the equator is real: a storm cannot spin up within about five degrees of it. Hover a track to name it; tap to keep it.

The record holders
Since 1950, by four measures. Tap a row to light its track. Winds are one-minute sustained in knots as carried by the archive; older storms in the West Pacific were often rated higher than a modern survey would.
Data: TerraPulse tc dex (IBTrACS-style tracks with NHC and JTWC fixes; US federal public domain), storms fetched 2026-09-27 through the dex's per-storm dossiers. The map keeps storms with a peak of 64 kt or more from 1950 on, of them, thinned to twelve-hourly fixes. Wind is missing on about two fifths of fixes, mostly before 1980 and outside the Atlantic and East Pacific, and those segments draw in the lightest shade. Distance travelled is the sum of great-circle legs between fixes; duration is first fix to last. The coastline is Natural Earth 1:110m, public domain. Names follow the archive; storms that carried two agencies' names show the first.
